Unsurprisingly, the Hunter Biden laptop story caused a frenzy of political drama shortly before the 2020 election. Former CIA official Dan Hoffman, now retired, was recently asked why he did not sign the letter suggesting the Hunter Biden laptop story could be part of a Russian disinformation operation.
Hoffman told Fox News he was “surprised” that no one requested his Russia expertise in discussing the letter before it went public and explained why he did not want his signature attached to it.
He said that, although Vladimir Putin is well-known for cloak-and-dagger espionage operations, there was no evidence to back the claims of Russian involvement.
The letter, released on October 19, 2020, was signed by 51 former intelligence officials and claimed the alleged laptop contents had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” Yet, they also stressed they had no evidence of Russian involvement.
After POLITICO published a headline that said the former intelligence officials were claiming the story was “Russian disinfo,” then-candidate Joe Biden used the letter to cast doubt on the laptop story during one of his debates with then-President Donald Trump.
However, over the past two years, many of the laptop’s contents — which revealed details about Biden’s personal life and business dealings — have been analyzed and shown to be authentic.
Hoffman also recently revealed that he received an email from former acting CIA Director Michael Morell asking for signatures on the letter. He said the email did not invite any further discussion or debate and that the letter was being passed around for signatures, not edits.
It’s interesting that no one wanted to discuss the letter or debate the evidence before it went out, yet it was enough for then-candidate Biden to cast doubt on the laptop story during his debate with Trump. It’s understandable why Hoffman refused to sign his name to something that was not backed by evidence.
More recently, Hunter Biden’s lawyers began to send letters to state and federal officials demanding investigations into individuals involved in disseminating the contents of the laptop, including to the media.
His attorney, Abbe Lowell, insisted the letters do not “confirm” the laptop was his client’s device. Which, come one… I think it’s been made pretty clear thanks to the disgusting videos, photos, and messages on the laptop that it belongs to Biden.
Hunter Biden is under investigation by federal prosecutors looking into potential crimes related to his tax affairs, foreign business dealings, and a gun purchase. The president’s son has said he expects to be cleared of wrongdoing.

It’s clear that the Biden camp has been trying to downplay the significance of the laptop story since it first broke, and the letter from the former intelligence officials was just another attempt to do that. It’s also clear that many of the signees did not have all the facts before signing, and Hoffman made the right decision in not attaching his signature to something that was not backed by evidence.
Ultimately, it should have been up to the public to decide whether they believe the laptop story is true or not. Voters were not given that chance thanks to a political bias media and big tech colluding with Democrats to cover for the Biden crime family.
