It is “Democrats desperation time” according to Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota. And President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer must face the facts: there needs to be spending cuts along with any increase in the debt ceiling.

On Monday, Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met, but there was no agreement on raising the debt ceiling, which currently stands at $31.4 trillion. The House of Representatives passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act April 26 by a stunning 217-215 vote, which puts the onus on Biden to lead.

Rep. Emmer elaborated on the situation in an interview with Fox News. “You’ve got a White House that refuses to lead, you’ve got a Senate that refuses or can’t act, you’ve got a House led by Kevin McCarthy that says ‘look, we need to raise the debt ceiling, we need to make sure there is no default in this country and we have a solution to do that with spending reforms’” Emmer said. The congressman issued a warning on future government spending. “These are things that are normal and until you have the other side actually showing urgency, we are not going to see much progress.”

As if the situation wasn’t dire enough, Biden has proposed a number of tax increases when releasing his budget proposal, including a 25% tax on billionaires and repealing many of the Trump-era tax cuts.

The reckless spending of Democrats has to face realities: like limited government involvement, less reliance on debt, and instead focusing on incentives and investments. Also, taxes must reflect those realities.

It is time for Democrats to stop with this “desperation time” mentality and do what is responsible for both the American public and the nation’s debt. And if Biden and Schumer remain unwilling to change, then their reign of fiscal irresponsibility will come to an end and they’ll face the realities of warranted consequences that come with it.
