PBS NewsHour host Amna Nawaz recently took a hard stance against former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, grilling him on supposed “extreme” legislation from Arkansas about transgender and bathroom issues. Her questions and line of thought suggested a clear agenda: to push the liberal narrative that “we know” this kind of “rhetoric leads to real-world violence.”
This is the same network that chides Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for obsessing over “woke” issues. This kind of hyper-politicized agenda-pushing is exactly what we don’t need in our media, especially not when it comes to children.
“Amna Nawaz: I want to ask you about some news out of Arkansas this week as well. The state Senate there, they have just passed what critics are calling the most extreme so-called bathroom bill that’s targeting transgender people. It would essentially criminalize, say, a transgender parent taking their child into a public restroom. Would you support a bill like that?
Amna Nawaz: Governor, there’s been over 150 similar bills from Republican-led legislatures targeting transgender people. We know that kind of rhetoric leads to real-world violence, can create mental health and emotional problems for trans youth. Why is this particular issue such a priority for Republicans right now?”
This kind of rhetoric is nothing more than a false alarm. It’s a political agenda meant to scare people into believing that there’s something wrong with Republican-led efforts to protect children. It’s an attempt to paint them as bigots and transphobes.
What’s really wrong is the idea of transitioning children at such a young age. According to the American College of Pediatricians, “80-95% of pre-pubertal children who experience gender dysphoria will no longer experience it by late adolescence.” This means that the majority of children who transition will de-transition as adults.
Transgenderism has become a trendy issue that’s being pushed by the mainstream media and by left-wing activists. It’s a dangerous narrative that’s being pushed onto children, and it’s being done without any real understanding of the long-term consequences.
It’s time to stop this agenda-pushing and to start having real conversations about the real issues that are affecting our children. We need to focus on gun violence, mental health, and other issues that are actually causing harm to our children. Let’s not get distracted by the woke ideologies and liberal political agendas.
