Have you seen the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new LGBTQ inclusivity guide? It suggests that teachers should become transgender activists and participate in Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs.

First of all, this simply flies in the face of American values. Allowing teachers to influence their students to think a certain way with regard to gender identity is not appropriate. Most Americans believe that everyone should be respected no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity is but this type of guidance from the CDC crosses the line between respecting someone’s rights and pushing an agenda onto impressionable young minds.

Secondly, the US already has a public school system that allows for a diversity of opinion when it comes to sexual orientation and gender identity – so, why does the CDC feel the need to push its own agenda? We already know that there are different opinions out there about these topics but it is not up to the government to decide which one is “right” or “wrong”.

Third, this type of activism could have unintended consequences such as creating an “us vs them” mentality among students who may disagree with this kind of ideology being pushed upon them by their teacher or school administrators. This could create a hostile environment in classrooms across America where kids feel like they are being judged based on their beliefs instead of acceptance for who they are as individuals.

I fear that this LGBTQ inclusivity guide will lead to further divisions within our society instead of bringing us together. We need more understanding between different groups – not less – if we want to move forward as a nation without discrimination or prejudice towards anyone regardless of race, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has gone too far with its new LGBTQ inclusivity guide.
