CNN is well known for its liberal bias. You could easily say that the network has been politically weaponized by Democrats. This has been especially true in recent years, as the network has become increasingly vocal in its opposition to President Donald Trump.

Brian Stelter, the former host of “Reliable Sources,” was one of the faces of this partisan slant, and it now appears that he’s in denial about his role in it.

In a recent interview with Dan Abrams on NewsNation, Stelter tried to play down his role in the network’s liberal leanings. When asked why he was fired from CNN, Stelter replied, “I don’t know. I know I had a popular show by CNN standards and I know that it was pretty cheap to produce. But I also know every show gets cancelled eventually.”

It’s clear that Stelter is still in denial about the role he played in the network’s liberal slant. He claims that he was doing “fantastic journalism” at CNN, but fails to mention that his show often featured guests who made wild and baseless claims about President Trump. For example, one guest claimed that Trump would kill more people than Stalin, Hitler, and Mao combined.

Stelter also suggested that Fox News was to blame for his departure from CNN, claiming that they “enjoyed making me a target” and “taking the low road” when it came to mocking him. But Stelter fails to recognize that his own words and actions contributed to this animosity.

It’s also worth noting that Stelter’s claims of CNN going in a more straight news direction don’t really hold up. Michael Luciano at Mediaite recently claimed that CNN head Chris Licht has “moved the network away from what CNN’s critics regarded as a liberal partisan slant and instead has emphasized straight news programming,” but a quick look at the network’s programming shows that it’s still filled with anti-Trump rhetoric and opinionated hosts.

At the end of the day, Brian Stelter’s claims that he was doing “fantastic journalism” at CNN and that the network is changing its ways are both false. It’s clear that Stelter is still in denial about the role he played in the network’s liberal slant, and his attempts to blame Fox News for his firing are misguided. If anything, Stelter’s departure from CNN is a sign that the network is not serious about changing its ways.
