The Biden administration is sending a clear message to the people of America – they don’t care about the dangers of Mexican drug cartels. Despite the horrific kidnapping incident in Matamoros and the tragic deaths of two innocent Americans, the White House has refused to designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
“Designating these cartels as FTOs (foreign terrorist organizations) would not grant us any additional authorities that we don’t really have at this time. The United States has powerful sanctions authorities specifically designated to combat narcotics trafficking organizations and the individuals and entities that enable them,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Wednesday.
“In the last few months alone Treasury has announced a series of actions against cartels that are dangerous to the public safety and we have also taken action that further enables Treasury to sanction foreign persons,” she continued, adding that such efforts had hindered the ability of drug traffickers to hide their assets from the U.S. government.
This decision is a slap in the face to all those who have been affected by the violence perpetrated by these ruthless gangs. It’s a sign that the Biden administration is willing to turn a blind eye to the rampant corruption and trafficking operations that are plaguing the border.
It’s time for the GOP to take a stand against this dangerous move. Sens. Lindsey Graham, S.C., and John Kennedy, La., have introduced legislation to designate nine Mexican gangs as foreign terrorist organizations and authorize the use of military force against them. This is a necessary step in combating the power of drug cartels and protecting our citizens from their reign of terror.
The White House’s refusal to stand up to these organizations is a dereliction of duty and an insult to the people of the United States. It’s time for the GOP to take a stand and demand that the Biden administration take action to protect our citizens.
I, personally, will not be holding my breath! This is the same administration that labeled parent opposed to CRT in schools as ‘domestic terrorists’. This is a slap in the face!
