The White House’s announcement of a $55 billion economic aid, health care, and security package for Africa has left many suspicious of its motives. After all, the Biden administration offered no explanation as to why it was investing such a large sum of money into the continent.
While the White House has promised to provide more details into the package during a meeting with African leaders that began on Tuesday, many are skeptical of the potential benefits the package will provide. After all, the administration has not offered any specifics on where the money will go or what it will be used to fund.
Furthermore, the White House has not provided any information on how the money will be allocated among African countries. It is unclear if the money will be divided equally among them, or if some countries will receive more than others. It is also not known if the money will be used to tackle existing problems in the continent, or if it is intended to support new initiatives.
All we have is that they’re, “Working closely with Congress, the U.S. will commit $55 billion to Africa over the course of the next three years across a wide range of sectors to tackle the core challenges of our time,” White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Monday.
Sullivan stated that the cash would be used to promote the African Union’s Agenda 2063 economic growth plan, in a very obvious attempt to dispel any perception that the US wishes to control the fate of African nations.
“That is not an American document. It is not an American Vision. It is the African Union’s document,” Sullivan insisted.
So Biden’s admins have randomly decided to invest a massive sum to Africa and we are all supposed to believe there isn’t a motive behind it? That doesn’t sound very Biden, does it?
