Missouri and Louisiana Attorney Generals have uncovered what they describe as a “vast censorship enterprise” between Big Tech and the Biden administration. The two states are suing the administration for allegedly colluding with Big Tech to censor free speech.
The evidence? Tens of thousands of pages of records, hundreds of pages of depositions, and a key piece of evidence showing how the White House pressured social media platforms to suppress conservative voices.
It’s clear that the Biden administration is using Big Tech to control the narrative. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are getting involved, and it’s no surprise that the most important First Amendment case in a generation is taking shape.
But the real problem here is the harm done by censoring information from the public.
The Media Research Center found that Big Tech blocked information from the public a whopping 275 million times in 2022. This means that the only information users were left with was “leftist-approved propaganda,” according to Media Research Center President Brent Bozell.
What’s more, the FBI’s frequent communication with Big Tech resulted in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story. This story was crucial for people to make well-informed decisions during the election.
The censorship between the White House and Big Tech goes far beyond that. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry shared a screenshot on Twitter Jan. 6, 2022 illustrating how the White House pressured Facebook to censor Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Facebook also censored left-leaning COVID-19 vaccine critic Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite the fact that his post did not violate the platform’s rules.
“No one is safe when the first amendment is violated,” Landry said.
It’s clear that the fight for free speech isn’t over yet. The Missouri and Louisiana v. Biden lawsuit is ongoing and will likely shape the future of free speech for years to come.
In the meantime, it’s up to us to stand strong for our First Amendment rights. We must keep an eye on Big Tech and the Biden administration and ensure that our voices are heard.
