The Biden administration is once again preparing to drag the United States into another foreign conflict. Amid the escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah, the U.S. has announced the deployment of additional troops to the Middle East. Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder offered few details about how many troops would be sent or what their mission would entail, citing “operational security.” But the question Americans should be asking is: Why are we sending more troops to another foreign war?
The Middle East Quagmire: When Will We Learn?
The U.S. already has 40,000 troops stationed in the Middle East, scattered across bases and naval deployments from the Mediterranean to the Gulf of Oman. This latest move comes as the violence between Israel and Hezbollah, two longstanding enemies, flares up once again. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Lebanese civilians to evacuate, signaling an imminent military escalation. While the U.S. has expressed a desire to reduce tensions, it seems that Washington is on the verge of becoming more involved, not less.

For decades, the Middle East has been a flashpoint for U.S. military involvement. Whether it was Iraq, Afghanistan, or Syria, we’ve been dragged into conflicts that have drained our resources and cost American lives. What have we gained from these endless wars? The answer is clear: nothing but more chaos. The situation between Israel and Hezbollah is no different.
While the Biden administration claims these troop deployments are “precautionary,” the history of U.S. involvement in the region tells a different story. What starts as a “small number” of troops often escalates into a full-scale military engagement. We saw this happen in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. Each time, we were promised limited involvement. Each time, we found ourselves stuck in a prolonged conflict with no clear exit strategy.
Israel Can Defend Itself
Israel is more than capable of defending itself against Hezbollah, a group that has long been backed by Iran. Israel has one of the most advanced militaries in the world, with a robust defense industry and a strong intelligence apparatus. The country has repeatedly shown its ability to strike back hard against those who threaten its sovereignty, as evidenced by its current airstrikes in southern Lebanon. Why, then, does the U.S. feel the need to send more troops to the region?
Supporting Israel does not require American boots on the ground. Israel is a sovereign nation with its own military and security apparatus. Sending American troops into harm’s way to defend a country that can defend itself is a mistake. If anything, the U.S. should be encouraging diplomatic solutions, not military escalation.
“Concrete Ideas” or Empty Promises?
The Biden administration claims to have “concrete ideas” to restore calm along the Israel-Lebanon border, yet it refuses to provide details. A senior State Department official mentioned that these ideas would be presented to allies and partners on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. However, if these ideas are so promising, why are we ramping up military deployments instead of pursuing diplomacy first?
What really happened between Germany and the Jews?
The truth is, diplomacy has never been a priority for this administration. Time and again, we have seen the Biden White House jump at the chance to involve the U.S. in foreign conflicts rather than pursue peaceful resolutions. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was a disaster, and now the administration seems eager to double down on its Middle East entanglements. It’s a pattern that’s becoming all too familiar.
America First: Bring Our Troops Home
President Trump’s America First policies recognized that endless foreign wars were not in the best interest of the United States. He sought to bring our troops home, focusing on rebuilding our military and economy here at home, not wasting resources abroad. Under Trump, the U.S. was not a global police force; instead, we pursued peace through strength, backing our allies when necessary but avoiding entanglement in foreign quagmires.
This latest move by the Biden administration flies in the face of that common-sense approach. Why should American taxpayers fund another military deployment to the Middle East? Why should American families worry about their loved ones being sent into yet another war zone?
The reality is that the U.S. has no business becoming further entangled in a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. This is a regional issue that Israel is more than capable of handling. Our role should be that of a supporter, not a participant.
The Risk of Escalation
Let’s not forget that sending troops into volatile situations increases the risk of direct conflict between the U.S. and Iran, Hezbollah’s primary backer. Iran has been emboldened by the Biden administration’s weak foreign policy, and there is no telling how far Tehran is willing to go in supporting Hezbollah. The last thing America needs is to be dragged into a broader war with Iran.

Furthermore, the presence of two U.S. aircraft carriers in the region is another troubling sign of potential escalation. The USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Harry S. Truman, along with their accompanying destroyers and cruisers, are in position to respond to increased violence. Having such firepower in the region may seem like a show of strength, but it also puts us at greater risk of being drawn into a conflict that is not ours to fight.
Conclusion: Say No to Another Foreign War
It’s time for Americans to ask: What are we gaining from sending more troops to the Middle East? The answer is clear—nothing. We cannot afford to get dragged into another foreign war, especially in a region that has cost us so much with so little return. Israel can defend itself, and the U.S. should focus on diplomacy, not military escalation.
America first means prioritizing the safety and security of our own citizens, not sacrificing them in endless foreign wars. If the Biden administration truly wants to protect U.S. interests, it’s time to bring our troops home and stop meddling in conflicts that don’t concern us.
