A diaper at New York’s LaGuardia Airport turned out to be more than just soiled, as security officers discovered 17 concealed bullets inside on Wednesday, according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The officers retrieved the seemingly clean diaper from a passenger’s carry-on bag after an X-ray machine at the security checkpoint raised an alarm.

The TSA revealed that the passenger, a man from Arkansas bound for Chicago’s Midway Airport, initially professed ignorance about the bullet-filled diaper’s presence in his bag.
Later, he suggested that his girlfriend might have placed it there. The TSA did not disclose the passenger’s name but mentioned that he was cited by Port Authority police for unlawful possession of 9mm ammunition.
This incident is the latest in a series of LaGuardia passengers being flagged for carrying bullets, and occasionally firearms, a recurring issue at airports throughout the United States.
In a recent case at LaGuardia, TSA officers found a .45-caliber pistol and a magazine loaded with six bullets hidden in a pair of Nike sneakers in a checked bag.
Firearms are permitted as checked luggage but must be secured in a locked, hard-sided container, not concealed in footwear.
In January 2021, officers intercepted 13 bullets concealed in a Mentos chewing gum container within a carry-on bag, with the bullets mixed among the gum pieces.
The passenger, charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, claimed the bag belonged to his son.

In April of the same year, officers discovered a loaded .22-caliber pistol and two boxes of ammunition (over 100 bullets in total) in a carry-on bag. The passenger explained that he had forgotten to remove the gun and bullets after visiting a shooting range, resulting in his arrest by the TSA.
