In the early hours of July 2nd, a devastating mass shooting took place at Brooklyn Homes in south Baltimore, leaving a community in mourning.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Rich Worley addressed the media, revealing that multiple calls were received around 12:30 a.m. reporting the horrifying incident at the 800 block of Gretna Court, where a lively block party was underway.
Distressed residents recounted a scene of celebration abruptly transformed into chaos. Initially mistaken for fireworks, the sounds that pierced the air were, in fact, gunshots. The absence of patrols in the area during the event raised concerns among some locals.
However, Worley clarified that the gathering was unauthorized, and the police were unaware of its occurrence until Saturday.
Worley grimly shared the tragic toll: an 18-year-old woman was found dead at the scene, while nine others were rushed to hospitals.
Shockingly, an additional 20 individuals, ranging in age from 13 to 32, independently sought medical assistance at various hospitals across the region. Among the wounded, a 20-year-old man lost his life, while three others remained in critical condition. The victims were identified as Aaliyah Gonzalez and Kylis Fagbemi, according to Metro Crime Stoppers.
As investigators sought answers, Worley appealed to the public for video evidence, while Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott implored individuals to come forward with any information. The commissioner stated that it remained uncertain whether the shootings were targeted or carried out indiscriminately.
