Robert Kennedy Jr., an unlikely contender in the Democratic presidential race, has expressed his belief in a conspiracy theory surrounding the involvement of the CIA in the assassination of his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy.

Kennedy argues that the evidence supporting this claim is “overwhelming,” as he stated in an interview with John Catsimatidis on New York City radio station WABC 770.

Despite Kennedy’s assertions, the CIA has consistently denied any involvement in the death of President Kennedy, who was shot while riding in a convertible during a parade in Dallas in 1963. The assassination has given rise to numerous conspiracy theories over the years, questioning whether there were additional gunmen or collaborators associated with the attack.

While Lee Harvey Oswald was officially identified as the lone gunman in the assassination, doubts persist regarding the existence of other shooters or a broader conspiracy.

A House committee formed to investigate the assassination concluded in a 1979 report that scientific evidence suggested the involvement of at least two gunmen.

The committee also stated that it was likely the president was assassinated as a result of a conspiracy, but could not determine the identity of the second gunman or the full extent of the conspiracy.

During his testimony to the House committee, John McCone, the CIA director at the time of Kennedy’s assassination, emphasized that Oswald was not an agent of the CIA and that the agency had no association or communication with him. The commission found McCone’s testimony to be supported by the CIA’s file on Oswald.

In his recent interview, Kennedy Jr. suggested that his uncle’s assassination in November 1963 may have been motivated by his refusal to involve U.S. forces in Vietnam.

He claimed that during President Kennedy’s tenure, he faced pressure from a military-industrial complex and intelligence apparatus advocating for military engagements in Laos, Vietnam, and other regions. However, the president remained steadfast in his belief that the role of the American presidency was to avoid war.

Furthermore, Kennedy Jr. floated the conspiracy theory that the CIA might have played a role in the assassination of his father, Robert F. Kennedy, who was shot and killed in Los Angeles while campaigning for president in 1968. He acknowledged that while the evidence implicating the CIA in his father’s death was circumstantial, he found it to be highly convincing.

It is worth noting that Robert Kennedy Jr. is widely recognized as an anti-vaccine activist. Last month, he announced his intention to run in the Democratic primary against President Biden in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
