A Meridian, MS Police Department lieutenant has been taken into custody on charges of statutory rape involving a victim under the age of 14.

The incident came to light on Thursday, May 16, when a complaint was filed with the Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services. The complaint alleged that Lieutenant Kevin Michael Boyd had molested a 12-year-old girl.

Following an investigation, authorities gathered sufficient evidence to charge Boyd with statutory rape of a minor under 14 years of age.

On Tuesday, August 6, after a judge signed the arrest warrant, Sheriff Moore notified the Meridian Police Department. Arrangements were made for Boyd to be brought to the sheriff’s department in DeKalb, where he turned himself in.

Boyd is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today at the Kemper County courthouse.
