The FBI has thrown the spotlight on New York City Mayor Eric Adams, seizing his electronic devices as part of an ongoing federal investigation that had earlier led agents to the doorstep of his chief fundraiser, according to an insider speaking to ABC News.

Backing the Blue: Understanding the Danger

The FBI, maintaining its characteristic silence, refrained from commenting on the matter. The mayor’s office did confirm the seizure, which occurred on Monday, but Adams, a former member of law enforcement, staunchly denied any wrongdoing, asserting his expectation that all his staff members adhere to the law and cooperate fully with investigations.

This recent incident draws stark parallels to the increasing scrutiny surrounding Democratic politicians. Adams’ top fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, had her home searched by the FBI in connection to an investigation probing potential illegal foreign donations to the mayor’s campaign, allegedly flowing from Turkey through a Brooklyn construction company.

Boyd Johnson, Adams’ campaign attorney, acknowledged that a recent revelation of improper conduct prompted immediate action, with the information swiftly reported to investigators in the spirit of transparency. Johnson maintained that Adams, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing, remains committed to cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, Johnson revealed that the FBI approached the mayor after an event on Monday night, seeking all electronic devices in his possession, including an iPad and a phone. Adams reportedly complied without hesitation. Subsequently, the mayor’s office voluntarily surrendered additional devices. While most of the devices have been returned, the specter of a federal investigation looms over Adams and his administration, reflecting a trend of increasing legal scrutiny facing Democratic figures.
