Two suspected members of the MS-13 gang were charged with the murder of a 15-year-old girl in what authorities believe was part of a “Satanic” ritual, according to reports. The suspects, Miguel Angel Alvarez-Flores, 22, and Diego Alexander Hernandez-Rivera, 18, were charged with murder on a Wednesday following their arrest on February 27, 2017, after a police raid at an apartment in Houston.

The 15-year-old victim’s identity has not been publicly disclosed. However, according to police allegations and witness accounts, she was one of three teenage girls held hostage in the same Houston apartment. A 14-year-old girl, who was also held against her will and raped by the gang members, provided crucial information leading to the arrest of Alvarez-Flores and Hernandez-Rivera.

The 14-year-old girl, who eventually escaped the apartment and was reunited with her family, told investigators that she was held for 14 days and forced to drink alcohol and take drugs. The gang members also raped her during this time. According to the girl, during her stay in the apartment, she met another girl, who police believe was the 15-year-old murder victim. The 14-year-old further alleged that the fatal victim disappeared after she disrespected the gang’s Satanic shrine, prompting Alvarez-Flores to declare that the “Beast” required a soul sacrifice.

Based on witness accounts and further investigation, prosecutors allege that Alvarez-Flores and Hernandez-Rivera took the 15-year-old victim from the apartment and drove her to a remote patch of grass on the side of the road. Alvarez-Flores then allegedly told Hernandez-Rivera it was “time to take action.” Hernandez-Rivera allegedly shot the girl in the head, and as they walked back to their vehicle, Alvarez-Flores allegedly turned around and fired another shot into her torso.

During a press conference, Sgt. Chris Sturdivant of the Houston Police Department confirmed the arrests and provided more details about the case. He noted that a third girl, a 16-year-old, was found in the apartment and was reunited with her family after the raid. “We are dealing with 14, 15, 16-year-old girls who are very impressionable young women,” Sturdivant said. “Regardless if they were there willfully or against their will, what happened is against the law and was wrong.”

Authorities believe that Alvarez-Flores and Hernandez-Rivera are in the country illegally after arriving from El Salvador, though their immigration status is still under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.

No updates are available at this time on the outcome of the case.
