Remember, Chicago, you all voted for this disaster!

In a stunning display of incompetence, Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has achieved the dubious honor of the lowest approval rating for a Windy City mayor starting his term in modern history, and it’s not hard to see why.

Six months into his tenure, Johnson is basking in a lackluster 28% approval rating, barely scraping by former Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s pre-defeat rating and just above Rahm Emanuel’s during the Laquan McDonald fallout. It seems the only other mayor who came close to this level of disdain was Michael Bilandic in 1979, scoring a whopping 33%, but Johnson is determined to outdo even that.

The cherry on top of this underwhelming cake is the breakdown of Johnson’s support. With a resounding 66% disapproval rating in crime and public safety, it’s clear that his liberal policy agenda, heavily campaigned on during the election, is falling flat. Even his supposed stronghold with the youth, boasting a 32% approval among ages 18-29, can’t hide the overall dissatisfaction.

As crime takes center stage, with 69% of respondents highlighting it as Chicago’s biggest problem, Johnson’s approach is met with a whopping 52% strong disapproval. A staggering 73% of voters are calling for a larger police presence in the city, a sentiment seemingly lost on a mayor who defended teenage rioters.

Johnson’s laundry list of misguided decisions includes tax increases for homelessness, defending teenage rioters, creating permanent tent camps for immigrants, and advocating for expedited work permits for immigrants flooding in from the southern border. The result? A resounding 63% opposition to sheltering immigrants in heated tents this winter and a glaring 46% rejection of the real estate tax increase.

Amidst this chaos, Josh Bandoch of the Illinois Policy Institute offers a glimmer of hope, stating, “Six months into the new administration, these poll results are a call from Chicagoans to Mayor Johnson to change course.” A change that, according to Bandoch, involves focusing on lowering crime, reducing taxes, and making the city more appealing for businesses.

In the grand spectacle of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s first six months, Chicagoans are left wondering if they’ve unwittingly signed up for a tragic comedy rather than a competent administration.
