House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, communicated through a letter to Wolf, informing her of the committee’s decision to summon her for a deposition on December 7. Jordan explained that the committee sought Wolf’s testimony due to her pivotal role in the Hunter Biden inquiry, aiming to contribute to the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

“In light of the Department’s refusal to make you available for a voluntary transcribed interview, we have no choice but to compel your testimony at a deposition,” wrote Jordan, emphasizing the necessity of Wolf’s firsthand knowledge in the investigation.

The letter detailed that the committee had discovered that Wolf played a significant role in diverging from standard investigative procedures in the Hunter Biden probe. This included objecting to the execution of a search warrant on Hunter Biden’s storage unit, preventing investigators from interviewing Hunter Biden’s children, neglecting to pursue “criminal campaign finance violations,” and instructing investigators to remove references to President Biden from a search warrant.

Jordan underscored the importance of Wolf’s insights in the context of the impeachment inquiry, stating, “[A]s part of the impeachment inquiry, the Committee is investigating whether President Biden ‘abuse[d] his power as President to impede, obstruct, or otherwise hinder investigations (including Congressional investigations) or the prosecution of Hunter Biden.'”

He further highlighted that Wolf’s unique position in the Hunter Biden investigation makes her crucial in shedding light on whether President Biden influenced the Department’s inquiry and if there were any attempts to obstruct either the Department’s investigation or the committee’s investigation.
