New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has once again expressed concerns about the impact of illegal immigration on the city, warning that it is causing significant challenges for New Yorkers.

In a recent town hall meeting, Adams emphasized that the city, known for its sanctuary status and non-cooperation with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, is reaching a critical point due to the influx of over 160,000 border crossers and undocumented immigrants since the spring of 2022.

Adams stated, “We are at a breaking point. With over 160,000 arrivals, and an ongoing rate of 2,500 to 4,000 per week, this situation is profoundly detrimental to our city.”

This marks another instance where Adams has cautioned against illegal immigration into New York City, although his efforts have not yielded significant results.

In a previous statement this month, Adams emphasized that the current rate of illegal immigration is unsustainable and predicted that New Yorkers would soon witness the consequences, including overcrowding and people sleeping on the streets.

Despite these concerns, illegal immigrants continue to enter the sanctuary city. Some have conveyed their indifference to the city’s crowded conditions, as they are determined to make New York City their new home.

The New York Times recently reported that New York City remains the primary destination for border crossers and undocumented immigrants, even as Adams has encouraged those in Mexico and Central America to consider alternative cities for resettlement.

On a monthly basis, President Joe Biden’s administration is releasing approximately 60,000 border crossers and undocumented immigrants into the interior of the United States, with a significant number finding their way to New York City.
