As per a Monday press release obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) is calling on Republican leadership to retain their presence in Washington, D.C. until the election of a new speaker.
The House has been without a speaker since Kevin McCarthy’s removal on Oct. 3 and has struggled to confirm two GOP nominees, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan.
With nine House Republicans vying for the role, the HFC is demanding an end to recess until a speaker is elected “swiftly and resolutely.”

The press release stated, “The House Republican Conference must stay in Washington, D.C. until a new Speaker of the House is chosen. Republican leadership should have kept Republicans in Washington over the weekend. Our work is far from complete, especially after the rejection of Jim Jordan, one of the most popular Republicans in the country.”
Currently, the House Republican Conference has no plans for a candidate forum until Monday evening, and there may not be a floor vote until at least Tuesday.
The press release emphasizes that any deliberate and needless delays should cease, as they only benefit lobbyists entrenched in the status quo. It concludes by urging the Speaker Pro Tempore and Republican leadership to keep Republicans in Washington until the new Speaker of the House is elected without any further delay.

Jim Jordan was removed from the race after failing to secure sufficient support over three rounds of voting the previous week, with 20, 22, and 25 Republicans voting against him on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, while all Democrats supported Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
Nine individuals, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota, Republican Study Committee Chairman Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Gary Palmer of Alabama, House Republican Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas, Rep. Austin Scott of Georgia, Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan, and Rep. Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania, are running for the position. The House Republican Conference is scheduled to convene Monday evening for a candidate forum, and voting will commence on Tuesday.
