On Monday, a video circulated online featuring former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). In the footage from October 2023, after the October 7 attack in Israel, Pelosi was seen leaving her San Francisco home, surrounded by demonstrators from the feminist anti-war group Code Pink.

They were shouting phrases such as “We know it was an inside job,” “stop the genocide, stop the holocaust,” and “Democrats want the ceasefire.”

In response to the protesters’ demands, Pelosi exclaimed, “Get out of my way! Go back to China, where your headquarters is!”

The re-emergence of this incident occurred a day after Pelosi suggested a link between pro-Palestine protesters and Russia during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash.

Pelosi stated, “But for them to call for a ceasefire is Mr. Putin’s message, Mr. Putin’s message. Make no mistake, this is directly connected to what he would like to see. Same thing with Ukraine. It’s about Putin’s message.”

When asked about the possibility of some progressive demonstrators being “Russian plants,” Pelosi denied this but called for an investigation into potential funding, stating, “I don’t think they’re plants. I think some financing should be investigated. And I want to ask the FBI to investigate that.”

Bash also inquired about the Democratic Party’s challenge in finding a balance on the Israel-Gaza issue without alienating progressive voters.

Pelosi acknowledged the difficulties, recalling recent disruptions at Democratic events and in front of her house. She emphasized the need to focus on ending suffering and addressing the plight of women and children in the conflict.

President Biden’s position on the Gaza war has caused divisions within the Democratic voter base. Progressives, advocating for a ceasefire for months, have engaged in protests at the Democratic National Committee headquarters and outside Pelosi’s residence, posing a potential threat to party unity.

Failure to address internal conflicts could open the door for a swift return of Donald Trump to the White House.
