Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and unrivaled king of trolling, has once again set the internet ablaze with his antics—this time targeting the liberal media darling MSNBC. Musk took to his platform, X (formerly Twitter), to post a hilariously provocative meme that mocked his “temptation” to purchase the struggling cable news network, after news broke that parent company Comcast may spin off MSNBC and its sibling channels into a new company dubbed “SpinCo.”
And honestly, could there be a more fitting name for a group that includes MSNBC, CNBC, and Oxygen? SpinCo? You couldn’t make this up.
Musk’s Meme Masterpiece
The meme Musk shared shows a priest, labeled “Elon Musk,” struggling to resist the woman (representing MSNBC) who tempts him. Musk captioned it with a cheeky, “And lead us not into temptation…”—a nod to his deep pockets and perhaps his even deeper disdain for the network’s unapologetic left-wing bias.
This isn’t Musk’s first rodeo with this meme format. Almost exactly two years ago, he used the same meme to poke fun at former President Donald Trump’s supposed temptation to return to Twitter. It seems Musk has a thing for both memes and stirring up the political pot.
The Billionaire’s Latest Banter
The meme, however, might not just be a joke. Over the last few days, Musk has openly toyed with the idea of buying MSNBC, much to the delight of critics who see the network as the unofficial propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.
In response to a suggestion that he should buy MSNBC, Donald Trump Jr. jokingly wrote, “Hey @elonmusk, I have the funniest idea ever!!!” Musk, never one to back down from a meme war, replied with his now-famous line: “The most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely.”
Even Joe Rogan joined the fray, writing, “If you buy MSNBC, I would like Rachel Maddow’s job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses, and I will tell the same lies.” Musk’s response? A simple yet deliciously trollish, “Deal.”
The MSNBC Meltdown
Behind the scenes, it’s not all jokes and memes for MSNBC. Sources inside the network say employees are in a “panic” over Comcast’s reported plans to spin off their entire cable division into SpinCo. MSNBC, home to liberal icons like Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, and Lawrence O’Donnell, is facing an uncertain future.
With viewership declining and public trust in media at an all-time low, MSNBC’s staff reportedly feels like their ship is sinking. Perhaps Musk’s meme wasn’t just a joke—it could’ve been a life raft.
Why Musk’s Mockery Matters
Musk has made it clear that he doesn’t just dislike the mainstream media—he outright mocks its pretensions of objectivity. MSNBC, with its breathless coverage of Trump “collusion” and endless parroting of leftist talking points, is a prime target for Musk’s ridicule.
The richest man in the world (with an estimated net worth of $348 billion) has a proven track record of turning mockery into reality. Let’s not forget, he once joked about buying Twitter in 2017, asking, “How much is it?” Fast forward to 2022, and Musk purchased the platform for $44 billion. So, while his tweets about MSNBC may seem like harmless fun, history suggests otherwise.
What If Musk Really Bought MSNBC?
Picture this: Rachel Maddow’s 9 p.m. timeslot replaced by Joe Rogan reading actual news. Joy Reid’s nightly sermon on systemic racism swapped for debates on free speech and government overreach. The possibilities are endless—and endlessly entertaining.
With Musk at the helm, MSNBC’s editorial stance would do a 180. Imagine a network that prioritized open dialogue over partisan propaganda, one where ideas—not ideological purity—drove the conversation.
Would liberals melt down? Absolutely. Would it be the greatest troll in the history of American media? Without a doubt.
The Bigger Picture
Musk’s increasingly political tone and his meetings with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago signal a shift. He’s not just a businessman or a tech innovator anymore—he’s a cultural force, using his platform (and wealth) to challenge the leftist status quo.
By poking fun at MSNBC, Musk isn’t just trolling a failing network. He’s calling out an entire media ecosystem that has long taken itself too seriously while alienating millions of Americans with its blatant bias.
Will Musk Pull the Trigger?
For now, Musk’s MSNBC comments remain in the realm of memes and speculation. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that when Elon Musk jokes about buying something, he’s probably already halfway through negotiations.
So, MSNBC employees, enjoy your panic. And Rachel Maddow? Better start shopping for those Joe Rogan glasses—just in case.
