Urgent and Alarming News: Internal Investigation Reveals Shocking Oversight in Tracking Foreign Ownership of U.S. Farmland!

In a disturbing revelation, an internal investigation has exposed a critical failure within Joe Biden’s administration to monitor foreign ownership of U.S. farmland. The investigation uncovered that the second-largest foreign landowner is a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), raising alarming concerns about potential national security risks.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) conducted the investigation and found that the Department of Agriculture (USDA) has consistently failed to share timely data on foreign investments in farmland, as mandated by the law.

The GAO’s report, released on Thursday, reveals that the USDA is not in compliance with the 1978 Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act (AFIDA), posing significant threats to national security.

“The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) does not share timely data on foreign investments in agricultural land… This failure has created potential national security risks,” states the GAO report, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The agency further highlights the USDA’s “flawed” information-tracking process, rendering it impossible to provide reliable information to Congress or the public regarding the extent of foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land.

The report underscores the urgency of addressing this issue, especially considering the USDA’s estimation that foreign investment in American agricultural land reached approximately 40 million acres in 2021. The GAO warns that such investments may have consequences for U.S. national security, with the possibility of foreign ownership near sensitive military installations.

The shocking findings come on the heels of the revelation that a Chinese billionaire, Tianqiao Chen, remained unnoticed as the second-largest foreign owner of U.S. farmland for nearly a decade.

Chen acquired nearly 200,000 acres of Oregon land in 2015 through the investment vehicle Whitefish Cascade Forest Resources LLC, raising concerns about the vulnerability of U.S. agricultural security.

Members of Congress, including Rep. Elise Stefanik and Sen. Jon Tester, have expressed immediate concerns about the Biden administration’s failure to protect agricultural land from being acquired by foreign adversaries.

Stefanik emphasizes the threat posed by Communist China purchasing U.S. agricultural land, stating that it undermines sovereignty, threatens the agriculture industry, and encroaches on military installations.

In response to the alarming situation, Rep. Dan Newhouse has vowed to introduce measures aimed at fixing the USDA’s internal reporting and data management.

He stresses that food security is national security and calls for decisive action to identify and address the foreign actors investing in over 40 million acres of U.S. farmland.

The urgency of the situation demands swift and comprehensive measures to safeguard America’s agricultural security and prevent foreign adversaries from influencing the country’s food supply.
