On Wednesday, the House of Representatives, with a vote of 221 to 212, formally initiated an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
This move, supported unanimously by Republicans, aims to empower House investigators to enforce subpoenas and gather evidence regarding allegations that the president may have engaged in questionable activities, such as trading official acts for foreign funds.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) emphasized the need to examine whether the president is compromised.

Surprisingly, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), who had previously been critical of the Republican focus on impeachment, voted with his Republican colleagues to formalize the inquiry. In contrast, Democrats voted as a bloc to oppose the resolution’s adoption.
The White House has come under scrutiny for failing to provide crucial information requested by investigators, including details about alleged loan agreements between Joe Biden and James Biden, missing records, and documents related to an alleged $5 million bribe.
This vote serves as a crucial test for House Republicans, who currently hold a slim majority that is set to decrease with the impending resignations of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Bill Johnson (R-FL). Speaker McCarthy had initiated an “impeachment inquiry” into the president on September 12, although the formal approval of the measure only occurred this Wednesday.

Some Democrats express skepticism about the evidence supporting the inquiry, while acknowledging concerns about the actions of Biden’s son and brother. A Democratic strategist who worked on Clinton’s 2016 campaign expressed unease about the potential impact of the Hunter Biden story on Biden’s presidency.
The vote took place shortly after Hunter Biden, in defiance of a subpoenaed closed-door deposition, appeared at the Capitol for a press conference. House investigators, led by Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), initiated contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter following his failure to appear.
Recent polls indicate widespread skepticism among Americans regarding Hunter and Joe Biden. The investigation into the Biden family, initiated in November 2022, has revealed financial transactions involving Joe, James, and Hunter Biden, as well as payments to nine additional Biden family members from foreign business ventures. These developments have fueled concerns about potential legal and ethical issues surrounding the Biden family.
