In a recent appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made shocking allegations against former President Donald Trump. Her assertion that Trump “ordered” a “terrorist attack” on January 6, 2021, is not just inflammatory; it’s a gross mischaracterization of reality. As conservatives, it is imperative to condemn such baseless accusations and examine the dangerous implications they carry.

Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric is not just misleading; it’s deeply concerning. By painting Trump as a villain responsible for orchestrating a terrorist assault on the Capitol, she not only distorts the truth but also fuels division and hatred within the political landscape. Such reckless language serves only to further polarize an already deeply divided nation.

Moreover, Ocasio-Cortez’s attempt to portray Trump as a uniquely corrupt and criminal figure is unfounded. Host Jake Tapper’s question about equal treatment under the law highlights a pertinent issue: the apparent targeting of Trump by multiple legal entities.

From asset seizures to investigations into alleged election interference, Trump finds himself besieged by legal battles. Yet, to suggest that this is evidence of criminality is a gross oversimplification.

Should parents talk to their kids about race and violence?

Her claim that no president, Republican or Democrat, has faced such scrutiny is not only historically inaccurate but also ignores the complexities of political dynamics.

Presidents throughout history have faced their share of legal challenges and investigations. To single out Trump as uniquely corrupt is intellectually dishonest and does a disservice to the broader discourse surrounding political accountability.

Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez’s assertion that Trump ordered the events of January 6 as a desperate bid to cling to power is not supported by evidence.

While the events of that day were undoubtedly tragic and reprehensible, attributing sole responsibility to Trump oversimplifies the complex factors at play. To reduce the actions of the rioters to mere puppets following Trump’s commands is to ignore the agency and accountability of those individuals.

Her claim of Trump’s culpability in a “terrorist attack” is particularly egregious. Terrorism is a serious and specific charge, and to apply it recklessly to political events undermines the severity of actual terrorist acts.

It also cheapens the experiences of those who have been victims of terrorism, both in the United States and around the world.

Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric is not just an attack on Trump but on the very foundations of democracy. By casting doubt on the legitimacy of the electoral process and demonizing political opponents, she contributes to a dangerous erosion of trust in democratic institutions. Such tactics have no place in responsible political discourse and must be condemned unequivocally.

Moreover, her attempt to frame the legal scrutiny of Trump as evidence of widespread corruption is disingenuous. Investigations and legal proceedings are essential components of a functioning democracy, designed to hold individuals accountable for their actions regardless of their political affiliation. To suggest otherwise is to undermine the rule of law and sow distrust in the justice system.

As conservatives, we must reject Ocasio-Cortez’s divisive and inflammatory rhetoric. It is incumbent upon us to uphold the principles of truth, fairness, and civility in political discourse.

We must condemn baseless accusations and hold ourselves and others accountable for the words we speak. Only through reasoned debate and respectful dialogue can we hope to bridge the divides that threaten to tear our nation apart.
