On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded at a block party in south Baltimore, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to 28 individuals.
According to the authorities, an 18-year-old woman named Aaliyah Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Nine others were transported to nearby hospitals, while approximately 20 additional victims, aged between 13 and 32, sought medical attention independently. Sadly, a 20-year-old man named Kylis Fagbemi later succumbed to his injuries.
During a news conference held on Monday afternoon, the mayor provided an update, revealing that seven individuals remained hospitalized, with four of them in critical condition.
The Baltimore police shared additional details about the surviving victims, which include:

- Two 15-year-old girls and one 15-year-old boy

Aaliyah Gonzalez, remembered as a shining star by her family, was described as a vibrant and joyful person. Her loved ones shared their heartbreak, expressing disbelief that they were now planning her funeral instead of celebrating her promising future. Aaliyah, who recently graduated from Glen Burnie High School and obtained her driver’s license, had intended to attend Anne Arundel Community College in the upcoming fall semester. Her family explained that she was invited to the block party by a friend, as she was unfamiliar with the event and the Brooklyn area where it took place.
Aaliyah’s family emphasized her compassionate nature and concern for others, describing her as the best sister and daughter one could ask for. They pleaded for anyone with information about the incident to come forward, hoping to find closure and prevent further loss of life.
City leaders echoed this plea, urging the public to provide any relevant information, particularly in light of videos circulating on social media capturing moments leading up to the shooting.
