In yet another glaring example of the chaos created by the Biden administration’s border policies, a heart-wrenching video shows a 2-year-old migrant girl clutching a scrap of paper with a name and phone number scrawled on it. The toddler, who had traveled alone from El Salvador, told officers she was looking for her parents in the United States.
This heartbreaking scene unfolded in Maverick County, Texas, where more than 200 illegal migrants, including 60 unaccompanied minors, were detained on Sunday. Among them, this tiny child was left to navigate the treacherous journey to the border on her own—an emblem of the catastrophic consequences of President Biden’s open-border agenda.
A System Failing Our Children
The footage released by the Texas Department of Public Safety is both heartbreaking and infuriating. In the video, the toddler, wearing a bright pink jacket, calmly answers a series of questions from law enforcement officers.
When asked where she was going, the child replied, “With my mom and dad.” Pressed further on where her parents were, she answered, “United States,” while holding up a small piece of yellow paper with a name and number scribbled on it.
“This is a stark example of the precarious journey these children make from their home country and how criminal organizations traffic these children across the southern border and further into the interior,” said Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
But this isn’t just a story about one little girl—it’s about the Biden administration’s reckless disregard for the safety and wellbeing of children by allowing criminal trafficking networks to thrive under its lax immigration policies.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Since the Biden administration took office, over 529,000 migrant children have entered the United States, according to Customs and Border Protection data. Let that number sink in—half a million children, many unaccompanied, have crossed the border, often falling prey to ruthless smugglers and dangerous criminal organizations.
Even more shocking, an August report revealed that the Biden-Harris administration has lost track of over 320,000 migrant children. That’s right—hundreds of thousands of children, sent into the United States, have simply disappeared into the system. And while the White House continues to turn a blind eye, these children remain vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.
A Border in Chaos
The video also shows dozens of other underage migrants lined up and reciting their ages and countries of origin, painting a grim picture of the human toll of this administration’s refusal to secure the border. These children are not just numbers—they are human beings used as pawns in a broken system that incentivizes illegal immigration.
Texas officials have repeatedly sounded the alarm, but their warnings have fallen on deaf ears in Washington. Governor Greg Abbott continues to deploy resources to combat the crisis, but without federal support, the problem only worsens.
Trump’s Border Enforcer Prepares to Take Action
Thankfully, help may be on the way. President-elect Donald Trump’s former acting ICE director, Tom Homan, is stepping back into the fray. Homan has vowed to crack down on illegal crossings, with plans to inspect the border alongside Governor Abbott this week.
Homan’s strategy? Employing the U.S. military to perform “non-enforcement” duties to support deportations and restore order at the southern border. It’s a stark contrast to the Biden administration’s lackluster approach and a welcome sign for Americans who believe in the rule of law.
A Call for Accountability
Lt. Chris Olivarez is right—regardless of political views, it’s unacceptable for children to be exposed to the horrors of human trafficking. But the truth is, this isn’t just about “criminal trafficking networks.” This is about the policies—or lack thereof—that allow such networks to flourish.
The Biden administration’s open-border policies have created an environment where traffickers can operate with impunity. By refusing to enforce immigration laws and failing to secure the border, they have emboldened criminals and endangered innocent children.
The Real Humanitarian Crisis
Democrats love to frame their open-border agenda as “compassionate,” but where’s the compassion for the 2-year-old girl wandering into a foreign country with nothing but a piece of paper? Where’s the compassion for the hundreds of thousands of migrant children who have been lost in the system?
This is not compassion—it’s incompetence. It’s a refusal to acknowledge the human cost of reckless policies that prioritize politics over people.
A Nation Demands Action
The tragic story of this little girl should serve as a wake-up call to every American. Our border is in crisis, and it’s time for real leadership to fix it. The Biden administration has proven that it is incapable—or unwilling—to do the job.
It’s time for leaders like Tom Homan and Governor Abbott to step in and clean up this mess. The safety of our children, the integrity of our borders, and the future of our nation depend on it.
