Recent reports indicate that five transgender athletes showcased exceptional performance in a women’s college volleyball match in Canada, leading to widespread outcry online, including from tennis icon Martina Navratilova.

Footage released by Canadian website Rebel News revealed three transgender players competing for the Seneca Sting and two for the Centennial Colts during a game on January 24.

Throughout the match, the transgender athletes remained active on the court, while biological females were observed sitting on the sidelines, as reported by the conservative-leaning website, known for its coverage of events involving transgender competitors.

The five transgender athletes significantly contributed to Seneca’s victory in the best-of-five series, defeating Centennial with a score of three games to one, according to the publication.

Rebel News claimed to have attended the game following a tip-off, prompting dissatisfaction from match officials and staff, some of whom requested them to cease filming and leave. David Menzies, representing the site, repeatedly questioned individuals present, including Centennial coach Andrew Mallory, regarding the participation of “male players.” Mallory responded curtly, stating, “I’m not.”

Citing concerns over safety and fairness in women’s sports, Rebel News cited incidents where female athletes suffered concussions involving transgender competitors, including one who previously played as a man.

According to information provided by a source described as a “volleyball insider,” at least six transgender women participate in the women’s league governed by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. The league’s policy mandates that transgender female athletes undergoing testosterone suppression treatment for Gender Identity Disorder or gender dysphoria must complete one year of such treatment before competing on women’s teams.

The release of the January 24 game footage triggered a wave of criticism, exacerbating existing worries regarding the future of women’s sports.

Martina Navratilova, reacting to a post featuring the report and footage, expressed strong opposition, emphasizing the need to halt such practices. Her sentiments echoed those of British Italian author and entrepreneur Paola Diana, who denounced the situation as cheating and misogyny.

Further condemnation came from grassroots activist Scarlett Johnson, who highlighted the impact on female players’ scholarships, opportunities, and susceptibility to injuries.

Efforts to obtain comments from Centennial and Seneca Polytechnic, as well as the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association, are currently underway.
