The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, recently served subpoenas to the five biggest tech CEOs in the United States: Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, Amazon’s Andy Jassy, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, and Apple’s Tim Cook. The purpose of the subpoenas is to investigate whether these five companies have been colluding with the Biden administration to suppress freedom of speech on their platforms and possibly even before the Biden administration.

This move has been seen as a response to growing conservative worries that major tech giants are discriminating against conservative voices online. President Trump has accused them of being biased against him and his supporters during his term in office, which they have. Furthermore, Republicans believe that these companies are not taking enough action against the propagation of false information across their platforms.

Rep. Jim Jordan commented on this situation, stating that these tech companies had not been particularly helpful when providing information about their content moderation practices and policies for the investigation – which is why he decided to subpoena them in order to obtain pertinent documentation regarding communications between the companies and executive branch regarding censorship or other matters.

Due to this alarming situation concerning freedom of expression within Big Tech ecosystems, Congressman Jordan felt compelled to take drastic action in order to get the answers he was seeking from these tech titans such as obtaining documents related to any interactions they had with the executive branch involving censorship or other matters. It is hoped by many Americans that this probe will shine a light on any possible collusion between these five powerful companies and government entities over suppression of free speech rights online so that appropriate measures can be taken if necessary.

Democrats have criticized the Republican-led investigation as an attempt to distract from Joe Biden’s agenda and undermine public trust in technology companies. They argue that tech firms should be allowed to make their own decisions about what content is appropriate for their platforms without interference from Congress or the White House.

The issue of censorship has become increasingly politicized over the past few years as more people turn to social media for news and information. It remains unclear what impact this latest move by Rep. Jordan will have on Big Tech’s content moderation practices or its relationship with government regulators. However, it is clear that this is an issue that will continue to be debated for some time to come.
