The legal team representing Cassie Ventura, the former girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs, has fiercely criticized the rapper’s recent apology following the release of footage showing him violently assaulting Ventura in 2016. The footage, aired by CNN on Friday, depicts a brutal scene in which Combs throws Ventura to the ground, kicks her, drags her down a hotel hallway, and hurls objects at her.

Meredith Firetog, a partner at Wigdor LLP, the firm representing Ventura, issued a scathing response to Combs’ apology, calling it “pathetic” and self-serving. “Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Firetog said. She noted that when Ventura and several other women initially came forward with their allegations, Combs categorically denied them and insinuated that the victims were merely seeking financial gain.
Firetog’s statement, posted on the social media platform X, emphasized the insincerity of Combs’ apology, which came only after the release of incontrovertible evidence. “That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words,” Firetog asserted.
The released footage has reignited public scrutiny of Combs, who addressed the incident in a video on his Instagram account on Sunday. In this video, Combs claimed to take “full responsibility” for his actions and reflected on being at “rock bottom” at the time of the assault. He also mentioned that he had been undergoing therapy since then in an effort to become a better person and expressed ongoing disgust with himself for the assault.
However, despite his public expressions of remorse, Combs’ history of denial casts a long shadow. In November 2023, Ventura filed a lawsuit alleging that Combs subjected her to years of physical violence and sexual abuse. The lawsuit provided a detailed account of the 2016 hotel assault, describing how Combs punched Ventura in the face, prompting her to wear a hooded sweatshirt to conceal a black eye as she escaped the hotel. This was corroborated by the recently released video footage.

Since Ventura’s lawsuit, Combs has faced a deluge of additional legal challenges. Five other lawsuits have been filed against him, alleging rape, sexual misconduct, and other serious accusations. These claims have further damaged Combs’ public image and raised questions about his past behavior and treatment of women.
In a particularly alarming development, Combs’ properties in Florida and California were raided by a Department of Homeland Security human trafficking team in April. This investigation suggests a broader scope of alleged misconduct, potentially implicating Combs in more serious and systemic abuses.
The legal and public fallout from these allegations has been significant. Ventura’s legal team, and others representing the additional accusers, have continued to push back against Combs’ narrative, painting a picture of a man who has long used his power and influence to escape accountability.
