My views: It’s the first day of Black History Month and an election year. Personally, I think the liberal left did this on purpose to create an outrage and blame conservatives. But of course, that makes me a conspiracy theorist, right? Here’s what happened:
The quest to recover a stolen statue of baseball’s groundbreaking icon, Jackie Robinson, has concluded, but investigators in Wichita, Kansas, reveal that the charred remnants found by firefighters render the tribute irreparably damaged.

Five days after the life-size statue went missing from a Wichita park and sports complex, the police disclosed that the fire department received a call reporting a trash can fire. Upon extinguishing the blaze on Tuesday, the crew discovered burnt fragments believed to be parts of the Robinson statue, deemed unsalvageable. Additional sections of the statue remain unrecovered.

“Wichita Fire Department arson investigators are probing the fire-related aspect of this incident,” stated police spokesman Andrew Ford, noting over a hundred interviews have been conducted. Security footage from early Thursday depicts multiple individuals removing the sculpture in the dark and loading it onto an abandoned truck. Photos reveal them cutting through the statue near its base, leaving only Robinson’s bronze baseball cleats.
Authorities have not disclosed names or suspect descriptions. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan attributed the progress in the case to extensive media coverage and expressed confidence in identifying the culprits. “Whether involved in stealing or accepting the statue, you were part of its destruction,” Sullivan warned. “It’s in your best interest to turn yourself in.”

City Council member Brandon Johnson, a Wichita native, lamented the discovery as heartbreaking. Despite this setback, he affirmed the community’s commitment to rebuilding the statue and placing it back in its original location.
The initial statue, erected at McAdams Park in 2021 with the support of Wichita’s League 42, a youth baseball league honoring Robinson, faced destruction. League 42, promising affordable baseball opportunities for children, plans to replace the statue at an estimated cost of $75,000. The original mold has been located, and fundraising efforts are underway, with hopes to unveil the new tribute within a few months.

League 42 founder Bob Lutz expressed anticipation for the occasion, stating, “It will mean everything. It will be a joyous occasion. Unlike the past five days, we’re ready for some joy, ready for some happiness, and we’re going to pursue that in the best way that we can.”
