The DeSantis campaign, in an effort to address concerns from donors and optimize its operations, has recently made the decision to lay off several staff members.

This move comes amid Governor Ron DeSantis’s performance in the Republican primary race, which has been deemed lackluster thus far.

Generra Peck, DeSantis’s campaign manager, described these staff reductions as “aggressive steps” taken to streamline operations and bolster the governor’s position in the polls. Peck stated, “Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden.”

It is evident that the campaign remains dedicated to its mission of leading the Great American Comeback, as emphasized by Peck when she said, “Gov. DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback, and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign.”

Previously, the campaign had over 90 staffers on its payroll, as per Politico’s federal filings in June.

Critics have also raised concerns about the DeSantis campaign’s limited support from small-dollar donors. Donald Trump Jr. voiced his thoughts on this matter during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, where he highlighted that DeSantis’s small-dollar donors were significantly lacking, making up only 15 percent of his contributions.

He expressed that while social media influencers may generate excitement, ultimately, the Republican primary requires putting the candidate on the stage. Trump Jr. surmised that the “Never Trump billionaire donor movement” might be influencing the perception of Governor DeSantis’s campaign as it embarks on the presidential journey.

Jack Posobiec, senior editor at Human Events, also discussed the DeSantis campaign’s situation during an interview with Breitbart News, emphasizing the need for a stronger infrastructure to attract more small-dollar donors.

The leaked memo, labeled as a “confidential friends and family update,” revealed the DeSantis campaign’s plan to revamp itself as it seeks to catch up to Donald Trump’s lead in the presidential race. Despite DeSantis’s entry into the race in late May, Tuesday’s Morning Consult poll showed Trump with a commanding lead in the GOP primary, leaving DeSantis at 16 percent – a “weekly tracking low.”

The memo indicated the campaign’s focus on strong efforts in Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire, including paid media and field activities. However, the campaign would not dedicate resources to Super Tuesday at this stage, instead intending to reconsider this investment in the Fall, while prioritizing efforts in New Hampshire.
