It is a sad state of affairs in America when politicians try to use the death of innocents to push their own anti-gun agenda.

Former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill’s recent claim that Jesus “would be shocked” by the lack of gun control in the United States is not only an inappropriate attempt to politicize tragedy, but it is also a misguided effort to use Christianity for the sake of political gain.

In the wake of Saturday’s shooting at a Texas mall, McCaskill took to MSNBC to push her gun control agenda. She claimed that Jesus “would be shocked at what our country is allowing to happen” and that there is “no way that he would embrace everyone walking around with weapons of war.”

It is disturbing that a politician would try to use Jesus’s teachings to push her own liberal agenda. Jesus was a peaceful man, but his teachings were not about gun control.

They were about love, compassion, and forgiveness. Jesus never called for gun control or the disarming of citizens.

The truth is that Democrats know that their attempts to take away guns from law-abiding citizens are unpopular, so they are trying to use Christianity to push their agenda.

It is especially hypocritical given that the Democratic party is the last place we should be looking for spiritual guidance.

Democrats spend much of their time advocating for policies that go against the teachings of Jesus. They are pro-abortion, pro-same-sex marriage, and pro-government welfare programs that discourage personal responsibility and entrepreneurship.

What’s more, President Biden and the Democrats are pushing for a number of gun control policies that will do nothing to stop criminals from getting their hands on guns.

They want to limit magazine capacities, ban certain types of firearms, and require background checks for private gun sales. None of these policies will prevent criminals from getting their hands on guns, but it will make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to own guns for self-defense.

The truth is that America does not need more gun control, it needs criminal control. We need to focus on enforcing the laws that are already on the books and punishing criminals who commit gun crimes.

We need to focus on mental health, poverty, and other social issues that are at the root of gun violence.

It is also important to remember that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of Americans to keep and bear arms for self-defense. It is not a privilege granted by the government, but a right given to us by God.

So, when politicians like Claire McCaskill try to use the teachings of Jesus to push their gun control agenda, they are not only misguided, but they are also disrespecting our God-given rights.

We should reject their attempts to use Christianity to push their own partisan agenda and instead focus on solutions that will actually make us safer.
