The View Demonizes Laws That Protect Your Right To Protect Yourself: They’re ‘Unfortunate’

The ladies of ABC’s The View, never ones to miss an opportunity to exploit a tragedy for their own agenda, spent Tuesday’s episode discussing the alleged unlawful use of deadly force by an elderly white man against a black teenager in Missouri. Despite the facts of the case being unclear, they were quick to jump to conclusions and declare it “unfortunate” that Americans were allowed to defend themselves with guns.

Co-host Sara Haines went so far as to demand that elderly people who couldn’t physically fend off an attacker shouldn’t be allowed to own guns, and she lashed out at the National Rifle Association, despite the fact they weren’t defending the shooter. She also falsely suggested not all states required background checks, and demanded that we somehow find out if people harbored racist thoughts in their heads before allowing them to buy a gun.

Meanwhile, co-host Sunny Hostin whined that “the castle doctrine has been around forever” and that “you can protect your home with deadly force in certain states.” She called the right to self-defense “unfortunate” and was thankful “New York is not one of” the states that allowed it. She then bizarrely blamed the shooting on “the right” and “Fox News” for their “fear-mongering” about rising crime.

It’s shocking that the hosts of The View could be so quick to try and strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights. It’s the right to own a gun and defend oneself that has enabled so many elderly and vulnerable people to protect themselves and their families. Taking away that right is not only unconstitutional, but it’s also unconscionable.

The right to self-defense is a fundamental right that is guaranteed by the Constitution. It’s a right that should be respected, not demonized and vilified. No one should ever have to live in fear of being attacked, and the right to own guns and defend oneself has enabled many people to protect themselves and their families.

The facts of the Missouri case are still unclear, but that didn’t stop The View from jumping to conclusions and attacking the Second Amendment. It’s time for the hosts of The View to respect the Constitution and the rights of Americans, and to stop using tragedies to push their own agenda.
