The recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio has become the latest political football for the liberal media to play with.
They’ve been quick to blame former President Trump and Norfolk Southern, the train operator, for the spill of hazardous chemicals into the air and water supply, and paint the current Biden administration and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as heroes for their response.
ABC and NBC have been leading the charge, with Good Morning America and Today praising Buttigieg’s latest stern letter to a company, while ABC gave him a softball interview.
Far-Left CBS, on the other hand, has been virtually silent on the matter. It seems like the mainstream media can’t resist a chance to prop up their Democratic darlings, even if it means ignoring the facts.
In the interview with ABC, Buttigieg was asked about his plans to help the people affected by the disaster and prevent future occurrences. He responded by saying, “change needs to begin right away” and called for Congress to do more to hold rail companies accountable. He also blamed the Trump administration for freezing a rule that would have required two-person crews on trains, claiming it was a safety issue.
Buttigieg’s response was far from convincing, and it seems like he’s just spouting the usual Democratic talking points. He didn’t provide any concrete solutions, and instead blamed the previous administration for everything. He also dismissed criticism from Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, who accused the Biden administration of loosening rail regulations.
It’s not just Vance who’s been critical of Buttigieg’s response. The mayor of East Palestine claimed it took nearly two weeks for the White House to contact him, and there were shouts of “where is Pete Buttigieg” at a town hall meeting last week. Even Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) called for Buttigieg to resign over his handling of the situation.
Buttigieg’s media allies have been quick to spin the criticism, but it’s clear that his response has been lackluster at best. He took ten days to even comment on the derailment, and now he’s trying to deflect blame onto others. It’s a typical Democratic move to blame everything on the previous administration and shirk responsibility for their own failures.

The people of East Palestine deserve better than this. They need real solutions, not just political posturing. Buttigieg and the Biden administration should be held accountable for their response to the disaster, and the media should stop playing politics and start reporting the facts. It’s time for real action, not just empty promises.
