Just when you thought the Bill Clinton saga couldn’t get any more bizarre, the former president is back in the headlines—this time, for addressing his “odd” relationship with Jeffrey Epstein in his new memoir, Citizen. Yes, you heard that right: Clinton decided to take a stroll down memory lane to revisit one of the shadiest associations in modern political history. The timing, the choice, and the words? Well, you can’t help but shake your head and laugh.

In the memoir, Clinton—ever the master of spin—describes Epstein as “odd.” Odd? You think? This is the same Epstein with a private island and a sordid list of scandals that reads like a Hollywood script no one wanted to greenlight. But, sure, Bill, “odd” is one way to put it.

Clinton tries to downplay his ties to the disgraced financier, emphasizing that their encounters were “purely for charity work” and “nothing more.” Of course, this line has been trotted out before. Who can forget the infamous flight logs showing Clinton’s numerous trips on Epstein’s private jet, dubbed the “Lolita Express”? But now, apparently, we’re supposed to believe he was just swapping charity tips in between the cross-Atlantic flights. The memoir gives no mention of any of the glaringly questionable circumstances surrounding those trips. Color us shocked.

The timing of this reveal, in Clinton’s latest attempt at public rehabilitation, is curious, to say the least. It’s as if he thought dredging this up would make the whole thing disappear—or that, with enough sugar-coating, the public might find it easier to swallow. But for most Americans, this latest Clinton memoir seems more like a comedy of errors than a genuine attempt at redemption.

Naturally, social media has been ablaze with reactions. “Bill Clinton calling Epstein ‘odd’ is like calling water ‘wet,’” one user joked, capturing the collective disbelief at Clinton’s attempts to paint his questionable connections in a more favorable light.

As if we didn’t have enough reasons to roll our eyes, this new narrative adds yet another chapter to the Clinton saga that most Americans would rather leave in the past. Maybe Bill thinks he can rewrite history in his favor—again—but for the rest of us, the Epstein ties are a reminder that some questions never really get answered.

At the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves: Who is Bill Clinton really fooling here? The American people are smarter than this, and no amount of memoir soft-pedaling will change the hard facts that raise eyebrows and leave questions unanswered. It’s laughable, it’s predictable, and it’s the latest in a long line of attempts to reframe a legacy that simply won’t cooperate.
