The rise in youth sex trafficking under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is nothing short of a national disgrace, tripling in numbers since their administration took office, according to a report from TheFreePress.com. This surge, fueled by the administration’s lax border policies, exposes the dangerous consequences of Biden’s leadership, particularly the disastrous tenure of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Under the Biden administration, the border has become a revolving door for illegal immigration, gang violence, and human trafficking. These policies, championed by progressive officials like Mayorkas, have allowed unprecedented levels of human suffering, especially for vulnerable migrant youths. The horrific details of the abuse endured by these children are staggering, and yet the administration continues to turn a blind eye to the mounting crisis.
One of the most harrowing accounts comes from Landon Dickeson, the executive director of Bob’s House of Hope in Denton, Texas, the only shelter for male sex-trafficking victims ages 18 and up in the country. Dickeson has witnessed firsthand the devastation inflicted on male teens from Central and South America who were tortured by their traffickers. These young men are so broken, so damaged by abuse, drugs, and violence, that they can barely function. Some have even suffered brain damage from being heavily drugged, while others have had their fingernails ripped out and wounds treated with lemon juice. The level of cruelty is unimaginable.

In an interview with The Free Press, Dickeson revealed the brutal tactics used by the cartels and gangs to control these young men. They chain their victims to radiators, beat them regularly, and drug them to keep them compliant. This is the reality of life for many young migrants who, instead of finding safety and opportunity in the United States, are subjected to horrific abuse at the hands of traffickers. These traffickers are emboldened by the Biden administration’s failure to enforce border laws, creating a dangerous environment where young migrants are forced into prostitution and exploited to pay off the debts they owe to smugglers and trafficking gangs.
What’s even more shocking is the government’s inability—or unwillingness—to adequately track and support these victims. According to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the agency responsible for issuing Certification and Eligibility Letters to children and youths who escape sex trafficking, the number of such cases has skyrocketed under Biden. In 2021, HHS issued 1,143 letters, which more than doubled in 2022 to 2,226. By 2024, that number stood at 2,148. Compare this to the average of just 562 letters per year under President Donald Trump. The data clearly shows a massive increase in youth sex trafficking under Biden’s open-border policies.

The failure of the Biden administration to address this crisis falls squarely on the shoulders of Alejandro Mayorkas, whose pro-migration stance has opened the floodgates to traffickers. His policies have gone unchallenged by Vice President Kamala Harris, who infamously “ran away” from the border crisis in 2021, failing to take any meaningful action to stop the exploitation of migrant youths. Even more concerning is the likely presence of fraud in the process, as some individuals exploit the system for a fast track to citizenship.
To make matters worse, federal investigations into the sexual trafficking of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) were stymied under the Biden administration, thanks to language added to a spending bill by then-Senator Kamala Harris. This legislation barred the sharing of information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), further hindering efforts to combat human trafficking.
Whistleblowers have repeatedly warned of the dangers these children face. Deborah White, who worked at a government-funded shelter, testified that migrant children were often handed over to improperly vetted sponsors. In one instance, 329 children were sent to a single address in Houston, Texas—an address linked to just two small garden apartment buildings. These unvetted sponsors often used fraudulent IDs and other means to procure unrelated children, raising serious questions about the safety of these minors. Yet, rather than investigate, White’s supervisors urged her to move migrants out of the facility as quickly as possible.
While progressives like Mayorkas and Harris insist that their immigration policies are driven by compassion and fairness, the reality is that they have created a humanitarian disaster. The abuse and trafficking of vulnerable migrant children is allowed to flourish under their watch, and yet, rather than address the issue, they resort to attacking anyone who dares to speak out against their policies as racist or xenophobic.

This is not about bigotry; this is about protecting children from horrific abuse. The progressive narrative that dismisses concerns about border security as nativism is a gross misrepresentation of the issue. Americans are not calling for closed borders out of fear or hatred—they are demanding that their government enforce the law and protect the vulnerable. The tragic stories of child labor and sex trafficking, as documented by The New York Times and other outlets, reveal the true cost of Biden’s border policies. Children as young as 13 and 14 are being forced into dangerous work, often to pay off debts to smugglers or traffickers.
Despite the widespread abuse, federal agencies and the media remain largely silent. When 10 human traffickers were arrested in Houston in 2023, the news received minimal coverage. Meanwhile, Mayorkas’ Department of Homeland Security was busy announcing new services to help migrants apply for benefits.
Mayorkas, who frequently touts his moral credentials as the child of refugees, seems more interested in promoting his progressive agenda than in addressing the humanitarian crisis at the border. His pro-migration stance has allowed human traffickers to operate with impunity, exploiting countless children for profit.
In the face of such tragedy, it is crucial that Americans demand accountability. The Biden administration’s open-border policies have failed to protect the most vulnerable, and it is time for change. We cannot allow traffickers to continue abusing children under the guise of compassion. The safety and security of our nation—and its people—depend on enforcing the rule of law at the border.
