In yet another major blow to Vice President Kamala Harris, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) announced it will not endorse any candidate in the 2024 presidential election. This decision by the IAFF, a historically Democratic-leaning union representing over 300,000 career firefighters and emergency responders, signals a growing disillusionment with the Democratic Party and its leadership, particularly with Harris. The move is a clear indication that Harris, as the presumptive Democratic frontrunner for the 2024 nomination, is struggling to gain support from key constituencies that once stood firmly behind the Democratic Party.

For years, the IAFF has thrown its weight behind Democratic candidates, making its lack of endorsement this cycle a shocking development. This comes just weeks after the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, another traditionally Democratic union, also declined to endorse a candidate in 2024, reflecting a seismic shift in political allegiances within America’s working class. For Republicans and conservatives, especially those aligned with Donald Trump, this is good news and marks a significant departure from the 2020 election cycle, where unions rushed to back Joe Biden.

According to IAFF General President Edward Kelly, the union’s decision was not made lightly. “Over the past year, the IAFF took unprecedented steps to hear our members’ views on the candidates and the policy issues that matter most to them,” he explained. Kelly added that the union determined it would be better able to advocate for its members without endorsing a candidate, stressing that the decision would help “preserve and strengthen our unity.”

However, the real takeaway from this announcement is clear: Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party’s far-left policies are increasingly out of touch with the concerns of working-class Americans, especially first responders like firefighters. Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), the only career firefighter paramedic in Congress and a former IAFF member, emphasized that the union’s decision not to endorse was a “big deal” and a positive development for Donald Trump. “It’s a big shift in that union not giving an endorsement,” said Gimenez, highlighting the growing divide between the Democratic establishment and its once-loyal union base.

For many rank-and-file members of the IAFF, Trump’s pro-worker policies resonate more deeply than the Democratic Party’s increasingly radical agenda. Gimenez pointed out that Trump’s commitment to restoring jobs, bringing back American manufacturing, and strengthening national security is why many firefighters and other union members are gravitating toward him in 2024. In contrast, Harris and the Democrats’ support for open borders, pro-criminal policies, and their inability to control inflation have alienated large swaths of the working class.

Let’s face it: Harris represents everything that has gone wrong with the Democratic Party in recent years. Her inability to connect with blue-collar workers, her record of soft-on-crime policies, and her open embrace of far-left extremism are driving away the very people Democrats once claimed to champion. For instance, Harris and her fellow Democrats’ refusal to secure the southern border has resulted in an influx of illegal immigration, which has direct consequences for public safety and national security—issues that are paramount to firefighters and other first responders.

Gimenez was particularly critical of Harris’s support for policies that seem to prioritize criminals over law-abiding citizens. “Putting up bail for criminals who are involved in rioting — that doesn’t appeal to firefighters,” he said. And he’s right. What message does it send to hardworking public safety officers when Harris and other Democrats defend rioters and criminals, often at the expense of law enforcement and first responders? It’s no wonder unions like the IAFF are distancing themselves from her and the Democratic Party.

Inflation is another key issue driving a wedge between Harris and the working-class voters she’s supposed to represent. Under the Biden-Harris administration, record inflation has hit middle-class Americans the hardest, with skyrocketing grocery and energy prices making it difficult for families to make ends meet. As Gimenez noted, “Firefighters, they’re middle-class folks, and this record inflation… affects firefighters and the families of firefighters much more so than the elites that Kamala Harris is appealing to.” Indeed, while Harris panders to the coastal elites and far-left activists, she has left everyday Americans behind—especially the working men and women who keep our country running.

The fact that two major unions, the IAFF and the Teamsters, have now refused to endorse a Democratic candidate for the 2024 election speaks volumes about the state of the Democratic Party. These unions, long considered bedrocks of Democratic support, are turning their backs on Harris and the far-left agenda she represents. This shift should be a wake-up call for Democrats: they are losing the support of working-class Americans, the very backbone of the country, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

In contrast, Donald Trump continues to stand strong with these voters. His campaign quickly seized on the IAFF’s non-endorsement, with spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt calling it “another devastating blow to Kamala Harris’ failing campaign.” Leavitt rightly pointed out that hardworking Americans are fed up with the chaos and incompetence of the Biden-Harris administration, from the inflation crisis to the ongoing border disaster. “President Trump represents the change our country desperately needs, and he will deliver economic relief, safety, and security for all Americans,” she said.

As we move closer to the 2024 election, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Kamala Harris is out of touch with the concerns of everyday Americans. Her far-left policies are alienating key voting blocs, including unions like the IAFF that once stood firmly in the Democratic camp. The IAFF’s refusal to endorse her is just the latest indication that Harris’s campaign is in trouble, and it’s a sign that more and more Americans are looking to Donald Trump to restore sanity and common sense to the White House.
