Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York City on unspecified federal charges, according to federal authorities. The arrest follows a series of legal issues involving the music icon, including allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. Federal law enforcement sources confirmed that the arrest stems from an ongoing investigation into sex trafficking.

The arrest took place in Manhattan, shortly after raids were conducted on two of Combs’s properties in Los Angeles and Miami earlier in the year. The raids, which took place in March, were part of a federal investigation spearheaded by U.S. Homeland Security officials. Combs’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, expressed disappointment with the arrest and maintained that his client is innocent.
In a written statement, Agnifilo stated, “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the black community.” Combs and his legal team are preparing to contest the charges in court.
The arrest was confirmed by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). Williams released a brief statement on Monday night, announcing that Combs had been arrested based on a sealed indictment. The prosecutor said that the SDNY office plans to unseal the indictment on Tuesday morning, at which point more details will be made public.

Combs’s arrest comes amid a series of civil lawsuits and allegations dating back several years. In November 2023, Combs’s ex-partner, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and abuse. The lawsuit triggered further legal action, with two additional women filing lawsuits that same week. One of the lawsuits alleged that Combs had choked one of the women to the point where she lost consciousness. Combs has categorically denied all allegations and dismissed the lawsuits as a “money grab.”
The legal troubles escalated when, in December, another lawsuit alleged that Combs was involved in sex trafficking. According to the lawsuit, the incident occurred when the accuser was 17 years old. Combs and two other men were named in the civil suit. The rapper denied the accusations but faced further scrutiny as law enforcement continued their investigation.
In February 2024, Combs was hit with another lawsuit, this time from his former producer, Rodney Jones Jr. In the lawsuit, Jones alleged that Combs made unwanted sexual advances and attempted to “groom” him into engaging in sexual activities with other individuals. As with the previous lawsuits, Combs denied the accusations. However, the investigation continued, leading to the March raids on his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.
During the raid, federal agents reportedly seized electronic devices as part of their investigation. Combs himself was stopped at an airport in Miami while preparing to board a flight to the Bahamas. He handed over several electronic devices to authorities at the time.
Many of the lawsuits against Combs were filed in the weeks leading up to the expiration of the New York Adult Survivors Act. The law, which temporarily allowed survivors of sexual abuse to file claims beyond the statute of limitations, led to a surge of lawsuits being filed against various high-profile figures, including Combs.
One of the most widely publicized incidents in the case involves surveillance footage that surfaced in May. The footage, posted by CNN, appeared to show Combs attacking and beating Ms. Ventura, corroborating details from her civil suit. Combs has not publicly commented on the video, but the footage has added fuel to the ongoing legal battle.
Despite the mounting allegations, Combs has maintained his innocence. His legal team continues to assert that the lawsuits and the federal investigation are part of an attempt to tarnish his reputation and extort money from him. According to his attorney, Combs is eager to have his day in court to clear his name.
Over the years, Combs has become one of the most successful and recognizable figures in the music industry. He has operated under several stage names, including Puffy, Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Love, and Brother Love. His career as a rapper, producer, and entrepreneur has spanned decades, earning him multiple awards and recognition as a leading figure in the entertainment world.
The current charges against Combs remain under wraps as the indictment has not yet been unsealed. Federal officials are expected to provide more details regarding the nature of the charges as the case progresses. For now, Combs’s legal team is preparing to fight the charges in court, maintaining that their client is innocent and will be vindicated. The developments in this case continue to attract significant media attention as the legal battle unfolds.
