I don’t know what is “real life” anymore. We spend so much time on our phones, creating the perfect representations of “us” that we want the world to see, press send and wait for that dopamine rush of approval from “likes” and comments.
But then there are some who say that they don’t post, comment, like, share or any of that social stuff, because their reality is still in the tangible, concrete world of all that is around us.
Which is the reality of how life is lived now? And more importantly, how is this effecting our future of preserving the facts of history, because if you aren’t paying attention, the mob (doesn’t matter which side of the political aisle, because both sides do have their mob) does not care about any evidence, facts, truths or anything that shows their side is wrong about an emotional issue; emotions trump all as of late, regardless of your political standing, and everything is based on your political standing.
How do we truly have the civil discourse everyone claims we should be having when hiding behind social media, prevents the reality of how true outcomes of conflict resolution are created, from physical and non verbal cues that we can no longer pick up while pontificating from our platforms? And on the other side of that very coin, what about those who rely on us for information or see us as some kind of beacon that is their source of “life”, which catapults us into a voyeur extraordinaire world that requires no interaction or involvement sans you using your finger to scroll?
Matty Whack, Scott Siverts and I had this very necessary and painful talk on the show and there is a very dark future headed our way for those who do not understand that even hiding behind your avatar of trolling, your reality is being shaped into a world that is flat and round at the same time and there is nothing you can do to disprove it.
