Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, known for his controversial policies as Minnesota’s governor, has come under fire from an unlikely source: his own older brother. In a series of pointed Facebook comments, Jeff Walz warned that his younger brother is not the “type of character” who should be making decisions about America’s future.

Jeff Walz didn’t mince words in his condemnation of the far-left policies espoused by his brother, stating unequivocally, “I’m 100% opposed to all his ideology.” This stark declaration came on Friday evening as he voiced his disapproval of Tim Walz, who is running alongside Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

The older Walz brother, disillusioned with his sibling’s political stance, is even considering a bold move — publicly endorsing former President Donald Trump’s bid for the White House. Responding to a Facebook commenter who suggested he “Get on stage with President Trump and endorse him,” Jeff Walz hinted at his internal conflict: “I’ve thought long and hard about doing something like that! I’m torn between that and just keeping my family out of it.” His response, which quickly garnered hundreds of likes, underscores the depth of his disapproval. “The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future,” he added, casting further doubt on his brother’s suitability for high office.

Jeff and Tim Walz’s relationship has been strained for years, with Jeff revealing that they haven’t spoken in eight years. The rift appears to have deepened when Tim Walz failed to notify his family about his selection as Kamala Harris’s running mate. “My family wasn’t given any notice that he was selected,” Jeff Walz lamented on Facebook.

Tim Walz’s political career has been marred by controversy, from accusations of embellishing his military service record to criticism over his delayed response in calling the National Guard during the George Floyd riots as his state faced turmoil. His brother Jeff’s stark criticism only adds fuel to the fire, exposing potential cracks in the public perception of the Harris-Walz ticket.

Adding to the family drama, conservative activist Laura Loomer recently uncovered a Facebook post from Jeff Walz dated March 30, 2023, the day Donald Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury over alleged hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. Jeff’s post criticized the state of American politics, declaring, “We’ve just become a third-world banana republic,” a statement that resonated with many, as evidenced by the hundreds of likes it received.

A registered Republican, Jeff Walz has a history of supporting conservative causes, including a modest $20 donation to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, according to Federal Election Commission records. Notably, there were no similar donations to his brother during Tim Walz’s tenure in the House of Representatives.

Though Jeff Walz has avoided media interviews, his social media presence offers a glimpse into his life. Now residing in Freeport, Florida, with his wife Laurie, Jeff is a retired educator who once co-owned a music store and worked as an assistant principal. His Facebook profile features posts of him enjoying family outings, including fishing in Costa Rica and spending time with his grandchildren, a stark contrast to his brother’s more contentious public life.

Interestingly, both Jeff and Tim Walz have had brushes with the law. Tim was arrested for drunk driving in 1995, while Jeff pleaded guilty to misdemeanor retail theft in 2001. Despite their differences, both brothers share a background in education, with Tim previously serving as a teacher before entering politics.

Tim Walz has faced criticism for his leadership in Minnesota, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when he imposed some of the nation’s harshest lockdown measures, leading to significant declines in educational performance. His commitment to equity, a central tenet of his political platform, has also drawn fire from conservatives who view it as a push towards a socialist agenda.

“Tim Walz’s own brother knows his socialist ideology is dangerous for America,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY). “Together with Kamala Harris, inflation will get higher, the illegal immigration crisis will get worse, and our nation will look more like Venezuela.”

Critics, including Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado), have called for more attention to be given to Jeff Walz’s perspective. “If the mainstream media has no problem amplifying the voices of Mary Trump and the family of RFK Jr. who speak out against Republicans, then the American people deserve to hear more from Tim Walz’s brother,” Boebert argued.

Representatives for the Harris-Walz campaign have not responded to requests for comment, leaving many to wonder how this family feud will impact the upcoming election.
