To hell with these people.  If we had this show of presence for the homeless issue or any and all corrupt politician, our country would be a unified front.  But for an issue that is happening 6,000 miles away, you block off access to the airport!?  No, I am anti “your side”.  How is this NOT an insurrection?

As an American citizen, there are few things more infuriating than having your daily routine disrupted by events that seem utterly irrelevant to your own life. Such was the case on April 15, 2024, when pro-Palestine protests erupted across the nation, blocking access to vital transportation hubs like Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and others nationwide. The inconvenience, the frustration, and the sheer audacity of these protests left many of us seething with anger.

Let’s be clear from the outset: I have nothing against people expressing their opinions or advocating for causes they believe in. That’s the beauty of living in a democracy, after all. But when those expressions of dissent impede the lives of ordinary citizens who are just trying to go about their business, it crosses a line.

What exactly do these protesters hope to achieve by disrupting the operations of airports, major transportation arteries that connect millions of people each day? Are they under the impression that inconveniencing travelers somehow advances their cause? Or do they simply not care about the impact their actions have on innocent bystanders?

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no expert on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Like many Americans, I have my own concerns and priorities to deal with, and the intricacies of a foreign dispute halfway across the globe aren’t usually at the top of my list. But even if I were deeply passionate about the issue, I fail to see how disrupting air travel in my own country does anything to further the cause of peace or justice in the Middle East.

It’s not just about inconvenience, although that’s certainly a major part of it. The sudden closure of airports throws countless travel plans into disarray, stranding passengers, disrupting business meetings, and causing a ripple effect of delays and cancellations that can take days to resolve. For those who rely on air travel for work or urgent family matters, these disruptions can have serious consequences.

But beyond the practical inconveniences, there’s a deeper sense of outrage at play here. It’s the feeling of powerlessness that comes from being held hostage by a cause that has nothing to do with us. We’re forced to sit idly by while a group of protesters hijacks our daily lives for their own purposes, without any consideration for the havoc they’re wreaking.

And let’s not forget the economic impact of these disruptions. Airports are not just gateways for travelers, but also vital hubs of commerce and trade. When they grind to a halt, the ripple effects are felt throughout the economy, from airlines and hotels to restaurants and shops. Small businesses suffer, workers lose wages, and local economies are thrown into chaos, all because a group of protesters decided to make a statement.

Some might argue that drastic measures are necessary to draw attention to a cause as urgent as the plight of the Palestinian people. But there are countless other ways to raise awareness and advocate for change without resorting to tactics that harm innocent bystanders. Peaceful protests, educational campaigns, diplomatic efforts – these are the tools of true activism, not disruptive stunts that serve only to alienate and antagonize.

In the end, the pro-Palestine protests that brought airports to a standstill on April 15th achieved nothing but widespread frustration and resentment. Instead of winning hearts and minds to their cause, the protesters succeeded only in turning ordinary Americans against them. And while the Israel-Palestine conflict rages on, those of us caught in the crossfire can only hope for a resolution that brings peace without further disruption to our daily lives.
