A devastating bus crash in Mississippi claimed the lives of seven people, including a 16-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother, after a tire failure caused the motor coach to veer off the road and overturn, according to authorities. The tragic accident occurred early Saturday morning east of Vicksburg, leaving 37 others injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released preliminary findings on the crash, which took place on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg. The NTSB announced they were deploying a “go-team” in coordination with the Mississippi Highway Patrol to investigate the incident, describing it as a “motor coach roadway departure and rollover” following a tire blowout.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, six victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a seventh died later at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg. The co-driver, remarkably, was not transported to a hospital. Warren County Coroner Doug L. Huskey confirmed that all those killed were from Mexico, including the young siblings. He noted that the Mississippi Highway Patrol is expected to release the names of the deceased soon.
The crash involved a 2018 Volvo commercial passenger bus traveling westbound on Interstate 20. It veered off the road just before 1 a.m. local time. In addition to the 16-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother, three men and two women also lost their lives in the tragic accident.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division are conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
