In a shocking and heart-wrenching case out of California, 96-year-old Jean Jacques has been slapped with a three-day eviction notice from her senior living facility, demanding she pay a staggering $110,000 or vacate the home she has cherished for 22 years. Jacques, who moved into Forest Hill Manor in Pacific Grove, California, under a lifetime contract, now finds herself in a cruel and unjust battle to stay in the place she thought she could call home for the rest of her life.

Back in 2002, Jacques signed a lifetime contract with California-Nevada Methodist Homes, securing her spot with a hefty $250,000 down payment and paying $5,000 a month in rent until her savings were depleted. She believed this arrangement would guarantee her care and housing for life. However, things took a dark turn when the original owners went bankrupt, selling the facility to Pacific Grove Senior Living in 2022. Despite assurances that existing contracts would be honored, the new for-profit owners, Pacific Senior Living, served Jacques with an eviction notice on August 16, giving her just three days to come up with $110,000 or face being thrown out.

“I was shocked,” Jacques told KSBW, expressing her disbelief. “The reason I moved into Forest Hill Manor was to be taken care of for the rest of my life.” Jacques, like many elderly Americans, had planned and paid for a secure future, only to have the rug pulled out from under her in her twilight years.

Bob Sadler, president of the Pacific Grove Senior Living residents’ association, is outraged. “She’s devoted all of her savings and money into this place,” Sadler said. “I don’t care what the legal ramifications are here. This is morally unthinkable.” Indeed, it is a stark reminder of how vulnerable our seniors can be when their lifelong plans and savings are suddenly disregarded.
Despite the morally dubious eviction notice, a project manager with the Alliance for Aging, Elizabeth Campos, highlighted several potential legal violations. She told KSBW that the eviction notice had not been approved by the Community Care Licensing Division, the state agency responsible for overseeing such facilities. Furthermore, the notice failed to provide Jacques with instructions on how to appeal, a glaring omission that speaks volumes about the lack of compassion and due process afforded to this elderly woman.

“It’s frustrating. You do get angry knowing that it’s an elderly person,” Campos said, expressing a sentiment shared by many who have heard Jacques’ story. “Where is this person going to go?” It’s a question that resonates deeply, especially considering Jacques’ age and the fact that she has nowhere else to turn.
Advocates for seniors are now rallying to Jacques’ defense, urging Pacific Senior Living to honor the original contract and allow her to remain in the unit she has called home for over two decades. The Alliance for Aging and the Residents’ Committee have made numerous attempts to contact the facility’s business office, but their calls have gone unanswered, highlighting a troubling disregard for accountability and transparency.
The Right, Responsibility and Requirements for an American Militia
As of now, Jacques remains defiant, vowing not to leave the place she has invested her life savings into. “I’m not going. They’ll have to bury me because I have no place to go,” she declared to KSBW. “They have all my money.”
This heartbreaking story serves as a clarion call for conservatives and all Americans who believe in justice and respect for our elders. It’s time to hold those who exploit vulnerable seniors accountable and demand that they honor their commitments. Jean Jacques’ story is not just a local issue—it’s a wake-up call for the nation. Let’s ensure that our elderly are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
